Military Care Package from the Girlfriend
In your military care package it’s important to include memories from home his buddies will tease him about and other typical guy things he will need.
The Basics, Baked Goods.
His favorite brownie or cookies in a vacuum seal food saver or sealed zip-lock freezer bag. Non-perishables to consider are drink mixes, hard candy or fortune cookies with inspirational messages. Any candy can be sent that won’t easily melt.Pictures are a Must.
Signs with family members and friends and a hand written message will remind him of home. Card, collage and scrapbook items are easy and light weight to send. These are not only care package items but should be regularly sent items from you and the family.The Guy Stuff
The following personal hygiene products have been rated the most needed products for our overseas soldiers.Shampoo, ChapStick, Scope, Deodorant stick, sanitary wipes, tooth brush/toothpaste, comb, razor, floss, lotion. I would recommend an assortment in each care package; we all know you can never have enough toiletry items.
A Few Mailing Tips
Make sure there is proper dunnage in the care package, when you shake the box, nothing inside moves. Check mailing limitations and requirements to the country you are mailing to, some imported items are forbidden. Long Distance Military Relationships Girlfriend/Spouse
A long distance relationship can be trying for anyone, but mix in a military deployment or a spouse joining the military and the relationship just became harder. How do you keep the man of your dreams and still have a healthy relationship when he gets home?
Communication
Experts agree being able to discuss relationship matters regularly, openly and directly is the best chance for a long distance relationship. With most military relationships, time and distance is a determining factor in regular communication. He’s in the military and requirements are tedious. There’s going to be time zone differences and days without telephone or internet use. At home, spouses and girlfriends deal with work schedules and a hectic family life, this can make coordination daunting. Even when the deployment distance separates you, it’s important to communicate the message to him before the frustration leads to battles.Pick Your Battles
Pick your battles. Although he’s not fortunate enough to pick his, you can pick your battles. This is a hard learned skill that requires patience. Do you want to argue or cause your significant other more stress while they’re abroad? Bring up small pet peeves will use up much needed time and energy for important subjects like kids, finances, future and so on.Talk About Your Time Together
You have little time together, make the most of it. He wants to remember the great times you spent together and what life will be like when he comes home. Open communication about each other’s needs will be the respect and trust that bonds long distance military relationships for the long run.
